Our Journey
Conversation Sparks
The idea for 'Break Into' originated from a LinkedIn conversation with the Co-Founder of Climate Designers. This global community of creatives provided the platform for Jonathan of Garlic Agency and Hari of Essencify Design to collaborate on researching ways to support job seekers entering the climate industry.
Mission Defined
We know from firsthand experience how challenging it can be to change careers. In today's fast-paced world, many people feel forgotten and left behind due to remote jobs, application tracking systems, AI tools, and economic inequality. Our goal is to bridge the gap between talented candidates and purpose-driven companies.
Careers Survey
To deepen our understanding we created and conducted a comprehensive survey to learn about people's experiences and career journeys, and to find possible solutions. We had 70 participants of which over half requested to 'stay in the loop', to receive communications as we develop our solution.
Team Expansion
During 2023 we reached out into our networks to grow the core Break Into team. In March we welcomed Lori Spitz (Award-Winning Resume Writer), and in August we started working with Meghan Ede (UX Coach & Tech Fairy). Both have been instrumental in keeping us on the right track!
Results Published
In July we analysed and presented the data collected from the careers survey on our website. After a culmination of over 6 months work it felt great to share the findings with the participants. The survey data is now publicly available here.
Conduct Interviews
During September and October we undertook a series of deep dive research interviews with a pool of ten candidates who'd previously completed our careers survey. We learnt a great deal from their experiences applying for careers in the climate space.
Ideation Workshops
During November and December we hosted a series of four remote ideation workshops collaborating with 20 participants from five countries. We explored ideas around climate sector recruitment - the insights we gained could be invaluable in shaping the future of building equitable climate careers.
Careers Toolkit (Beta)
A growing directory (currently 100 entries) designed to gently guide your exploration into the climate sector. Here, you'll encounter a range of resources, thoughtfully assembled to support your journey. Whether it's refining your resume, connecting with a career coach, or expanding your climate knowledge through courses and podcasts, our evolving collection offers a starting point for your exploration.
Climate Organisations
As the new year unfolds, we're setting off to engage in conversations with organizations at the forefront of climate solutions. Our goal is to conduct candid interviews with founders and hiring managers who play a pivotal role in expanding their teams. We aim to gain a deeper understanding of the hiring methods used by these pioneering organizations. More to follow...
